Let's cut to the chase—2023 rocked! In early December, we hit a whopping 1,000,000 unique visitors on thisiseindhoven.com and turned our plans into action across all our programs. Neighborhood Bistro Schil & Stronk

How do we reach 50% of the residents and ensure that 10% of them get involved in making their living environment more sustainable? Those are the central questions of our resident-focused program. In 2023, we developed the concept 'Buurtbistro Schil & Stronk (Neighborhood Bistro Peel & Stalk) in collaboration with the social designers from Studio Sociaal Centraal. The name is derived from the edible parts of vegetables that people often discard. At the traveling Neighborhood Bistro, people learn together with their neighbors how to get the most out of their meals. For example, they learn how to prepare the stalk of broccoli or how to store spinach so that they don't have to throw away half the bag. With Schil & Stronk, participants not only learn to waste less but also get to know their neighbors better. Win-win!

Concept design

In 2023, we took a deep dive into sustainable tourism—researching, learning, and sharing the inside scoop. Now, claiming the title of the ultimate sustainable destination? Well, that's no walk in the park. So, we teamed up with NBTC and The Travel Foundation, cooking up a multi-year game plan with laser-focused steps. Think of it as our roadmap to morph Eindhoven into the ultimate sustainable city trip spot.

Green initiatives alone won't make your city trip eco-friendly, though. That's why we partnered with design studio Van Eijk and Van der Lubbe. Get ready for 2024, as we unveil the city trip of the future—a complete game-changer that will revolutionise our travel norms. Sneak peek: we're reinventing how we travel and expanding Eindhoven's horizons. Get ready for a whole new perspective!

Eindhoven Now

In 2022, we kicked off a collaboration with Eindhoven's top educational institutions. During a couple of brainstorm sessions, we tackled the big question: How do we get students to team up across disciplines and take on Eindhoven's social challenges? Fast forward to 2023, and we're still riding the wave of that challenge, turning the process into part of the solution. Out of our collective learning journey, we birthed a concept – an interdisciplinary learning community, bringing our shared dream to life.

Homewards the Quiz

How do we ensure that newcomers find their place in the Eindhoven area? By making practical information accessible and offering support in establishing a social network. In 2023, we made considerable steps in this regard. For example, we developed tons of content to help newcomers settle and developed, together with our partners, a social onboarding program for newcomers: Homewards.

Eindhoven Design District

For our design professionals program, we closely collaborate with the Dutch Design Foundation and the municipality of Eindhoven. With Eindhoven Design District, we work on making design in the city more visible and easy to experience. The project is made possible by a contribution from the Brainport Eindhoven Regional Deal.

In 2023, we took significant steps to add more design to public spaces. Examples include 'The Many Tree' by Joshua Russo-Batterham and 'Bepaalbakken’ (Ballot Bins) by De Reuringdienst. We also worked on a design object near the station. In early 2024, two designers will present their proposals for this eye-catching piece, letting you know immediately that you've set foot in the design capital of the Netherlands. Additionally, we expanded eindhovendesigndistrict.com with cases, interviews, and vision pieces, and our EDD expo traveled throughout the city.

Eindhoven designers are applying a distinctive design touch to this year's festive decorations downtown, marking the third edition of Wrap up the Year—a campaign presented by Stichting Binnenstad Eindhoven in collaboration with the city marketing organisation, Eindhoven365. The city center was adorned with exclusive Christmas scenes and refined mood lighting, complemented by an extensive holiday program designed for residents and visitors.

Convention Bureau Brainport Eindhoven

Convention Bureau Brainport Eindhoven is actively attracting high-quality business visitors. We focus on securing international conferences that enhance the profile of Eindhoven and the Brainport region. In 2023, we achieved significant milestones, including participation in international expos, a successful FAMtrip during GLOW, and a strengthened collaboration with the congress bureau of the TU/e.

This resulted in securing 13 conferences for 2023 and the upcoming years, hosting over 5,500 conference attendees and generating an economic value of 43 million euros. In collaboration with PhotonDelta and partners, under the guidance of the Event Design Collective and our convention bureau, we have developed a multi-year strategy for the growth of a European congress on integrated photonics, with Brainport Eindhoven as its foundation.

Open Eindhoven

The Open Eindhoven project is our ongoing effort to clearly and enthusiastically explain the city's major transformation to locals and visitors. This year, we've teamed up with the Eindhoven municipality to take big strides in place-making (improving public spaces) and public communication. We've also enhanced the digital info on openeindhoven.nl and are actively updating details on all construction projects. Plus, there's a cool interactive model of the KnoopXL Station Area in the works, set to move to a shared presentation space soon.

Our colleagues from Eindhoven247 made their positive mark on the city marketing strategy again this year. Whether welcoming visitors at Tourist Information Eindhoven, managing the events desk for Park Hilaria, attracting international sports events to the city, or supporting Depot Eindhoven— they did it all. To top it off, Eindhoven247 successfully organized the first edition of New Year's EHVE.
